Week #3 Reflection

This week has been so fun! We primarily focused on practicing "Bob Job" conversations in preparation for canvassing, which happened on Saturday. It was super fun acting out the different roles with Neeya and Kira, even though we might have gotten a little too carried away with making Bob Job's backstory more interesting at times (long story short: Kira ended up as a senile farmer living on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere).
Canvassing itself was SO fun, but it was such a hot day out too! It was my first time ever going out to do this, and although I was excited to meet everyone else for the first time in person (!!!) I was also a little bit nervous about possibly not knowing what to say. Celeste was my canvassing partner, and she helped me out SO much during the process! We practiced together for the first couple of houses until I thought I got a hang of it, and then when we went on our separate ways, I got to meet so many cool people! I remember I met a woman who didn't know much English and when I was explaining Aisha Farooqi and voting procedure, she didn't seem to be fully grasping what I said so I asked her if she spoke Bengali (which I'm fluent in) and she did! We had a super great and insightful conversation, especially about education since she had two young kids while she couldn't speak much English and her husband worked full time, so she was super interested in getting the best education for her kids.
OH- and I also ran into my family members. TWICE! But that's a story for another time, since this entry is already getting kind of long :)
